What would be a good headline for the topic “bulldozing a house with termites”?
I need this for homework. I have to create a news report about a picture of a house being bulldozed, so I thought why not a house with termites and with old age of 80 years.
Please Help!

Bulldozer beats the termites.

I found a bug in my wood pile but i don’t think it was a termite it was burrowing in the wood what is it?
IT IS ABOUT 1″ LONG AND HAS PINCHERS ON THE FRONT I SAW IT BORING THROUGHT THE WOOD THAT IT WAS ON THEN LATTER I FOUND 4 OF THESE UNDER THE KNOB ON MY GRILL I DON’T HAVE ANY PICTURES

admin answers:
It could have been an earwig (order dermaptera) look on google at pictures of this insect to see if its the same. These insects have pincers but they are found on the rear of the animal not the front. These insects are omnivorous and can destroy crops so I think they would probably eat wood as well.
There are also many different types of termites. Some of which have pincers too. So it may just be a termite that you don’t normally see.

Sharon asks…
What kind of bug is this?
We live in central Florida, in a house on the outskirts of Orlando. Our backyard buts up against a conservation area. We have had fruit flies before, but tonight I went to the kitchen and there were at least 100 of these tiny bugs in our light fixture. They are mainly dark brown to black. They have long clear wings, 3 parts to their body, and the “tail” is the biggest part of their body. They have black eyes and 2 short black antennae. The “tail” is slightly curved. They don’t look exactly like the flying ant pictures or the swarming termite pictures. The bugs I found have shorter wings. I have never seen them before. The only thing I can think of is that the light fixture is above our fruit bowl, and I bought produce at a new mom and pop store earlier today. These are gross. What are they and do we need to call an exterminator? Thanks.
i don’t know how to post a picture, but I have a good one to submit
I googled a picture of a midge and it does look very similar to that.

Save some, either preserve them in alcohol or put them in the fridge for now.
You local Cooperative Extension Service can probably tell you what they are. Try http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/leisure/coopext/contact.asp or http://brevard.ifas.ufl.edu/contact_us.shtml

Michael asks…
Can someone help determine what the problem is?
I don’t know what is wrong. One of the walls in my room has a bunch of needle size holes on it. They are not holes caused by putting nails or thumbtacks to hang a picture. I don’t know how they appeared. When you put your finger to touch it, the hole gets bigger because my finger went through. Can someone tell what is wrong. Does I have mold, termites or is the wall just rotting away?

admin answers:
It’s probably termites. I had the same problem, although not nearly so bad. You might look for little droppings that look like sawdust on the floor below the holes. Your house will definitely need treatment, possibly fumigation depending on the extent of infestation.
If the drywall is severely damaged, it would be best to have it replaced. When the drywall is removed, the house framing can be inspected for damage. It may be necessary to replace some studs or other wood members. Your termite company can probably make these repairs, although you might want to get another estimate from a general contractor.
Before the new drywall is hung, you might want to insulate the walls if they have not already been insulated.
I’d recommend entering into a service contract with your pest control company. They will perform an annual inspection and perform any necessary treatment as part of the contract. Plus, they will come out any time during the year when you find a problem. An infestation as bad as yours may require more than one treatment.

Sandra asks…
I moved to Tampa and I am trying to figure out what these mounds of grey dirt on my lawn are and how to solve.
I am trying to figure out the cause of little grey dirt / sand mounds on my lawn and how to fix the problem. Are they ants? Termites? What do I need to get rid of them and where can I get it? Can I do it myself? I don’t have a digital camera or I would post a picture. If someone has a picture of what they think it might be that would be great. Thanks.

admin answers:
Ah, the Fire Ant. It makes mounds everywhere it digs. Get some lawn spreader products from Lowes or Home Depot. The products say Fire Ant on them, and they work for one season. Your neighbor will get the ants after you use this stuff, and if you quit using it, the ants will come back.
Careful not to step on the hills in the daylight! They bite really bad.
